Happy almost-Halloween! 🎃
A man in Rhode Island grew the heaviest pumpkin ever. It weighs 3,156 pounds. That is enough for more than 3,000 pumpkin pies. 🥧
One week before, the record pumpkin weighed about 2,857 pounds. So the new one won by almost 300 pounds.
This week, your kid gets two worksheets. First, a warm-up to spot and name numbers. Then the main event: adding and taking away. ✏️
Worksheet of the week ✏️
Basic Math, Addition and Subtraction
Now the numbers do something! Kids add things together and take things away. It builds the math they use every day in kindergarten and first grade.

Tip: Use real objects. Candy corn works great. So do Cheerios. Anything they can eat after counting gets their full attention. 🍬

Story time 📖
Good Night, Little Bear by Patsy Scarry, illustrated by Richard Scarry
It is bedtime. First a story. Then a kiss from Mother Bear. Then Father Bear carries Little Bear to bed. 🐻
But wait. Little Bear is missing!

Kids love being “in on the joke.” Expect lots of pointing and shouting. The ending is silly, sweet, and a little bit tasty.
Ask after reading: “If you were Little Bear, where would you hide?”
Watch & Wonder 🔬
Bats come out on Halloween. 🦇 But how do they fly in the dark without bumping into things?
In this SciShow Kids video, Squeaks and Mister Brown find out how bats “see” with sound. It is called echolocation. Big word. Cool idea.

An egg! 🥚
One last thing…✨
You do not need a math lesson this weekend. Counting candy is math. Sorting it into piles is math. Sharing it is subtraction.
Small moments like these add up. Literally. 💛
And hiding the good chocolate from your family? That is advanced math. We will not tell. 🍫
