Candy corn used to have a different name. It was called “Chicken Feed,” from a time when corn was food for farm animals. 🐔
Later boxes even showed a rooster on the front.
So how was Halloween Bunch? Write us what kind of worksheet do you want for the weekend.
This week, we count down like five little ghosts. Press play on this spooky counting song and count from 5 to 0 together.
Then try the worksheet. Then meet a book with a very creepy door.
Worksheet of the week ✏️
This week’s worksheet is full of Halloween counting fun.

Counting, writing and matching help little hands and little brains work together. Plus, ghosts and bats make math feel like a game.

Story time 📖
This week’s book is Don’t Push the Button! A Halloween Treat by Bill Cotter.
Larry goes trick-or-treating. There is only one rule. Do not push the button. Your child will want to push it. Everyone does.

The Horn Book calls it “a splendiferous Halloween story.” School Library Journal gave it a starred review. It has bouncy, repeating lines, so it is great to read out loud.
Ask after reading: “Which sound was your favorite: clomp, shake or clap? Can you make it?”
Burn some energy 🏃
Time to shake. Follow along with Danny and his friends in this Halloween dance video. They dance like werewolves, bats, mummies, spiders and a skeleton.
Your couch will get a workout too. Sorry, couch.
Bonus challenge: When you pause the video, freeze like a mummy for 10 seconds. The first one who moves loses. Parents, you may laugh. That is allowed.
Parent peek 👻
Would you trick your little one?
This week’s fun 🎨
1. Ghost bowling. Draw faces on 6 paper cups. Stack them. Roll a soft ball to knock them down. Count the cups that fall.
2. Candy sort (no candy needed). Mix pom-poms or buttons in a bowl. Your child sorts them by color. Then count each group.
3. Mummy wrap. Give your child a roll of toilet paper and a stuffed toy. Wrap the toy from head to toe. Then unwrap it. Roll the paper back up if you feel brave.
Your corner 🌸
You help everyone else all day. Now it is your turn. Here are two short breaks.
💪 Workout: A 10-minute, no-equipment workout you can do while dinner cooks.
🧘 Stretch: 10-Minute Full Body Stretch with Yoga With Adriene.
Mom’s Halloween safety cheat sheet 🔦
Costumes are fun, but here are a few easy tips:
Add reflective tape to costumes and bags.
Use face paint instead of a mask, so your child can see well.
Give each child a flashlight or glow stick.
Check that costumes are short enough to stop trips.
Answer 🤔

Spelling! 🧙♀️
One last thing…✨
You do not need a perfect plan. A song, a count to 5 and a silly book all count as learning.
Small moments add up. Your kids will remember the dancing. They will not remember the dishes in the sink.
