Hi there! 👋
Long ago, the Maya people of Central America counted in groups of 20. Why 20? Experts think they used their fingers AND their toes. 🖐️🖐️🦶🦶
So if your kid counts on their toes, they are not being silly. They are being very, very ancient.
This week, we count from 1 to 20. But some numbers ran away. Your kid’s job is to find them. 🏃♂️
Worksheet of the week ✏️
Some numbers are hiding. Your little detective spots the gaps and writes in the missing numbers. 🕵️
Counting from 1 is easy. Starting at 13 and knowing what comes next? That is the real skill for kindergarten math.

Tip: Use a pencil. Teen numbers like to flip. You may see 51 when they mean 15. Totally normal. 🙃
Trivia 🤔
Why was 6 afraid of 7?

Story time 📖
Tiny T. Rex has a HUGE problem. His friend Pointy is sad, and only a hug will help. But Tiny is small, and his arms are very, very short. Can a T. Rex even give a hug? 🦖

It is a sweet, funny story about friendship, kindness, and trying again. Perfect for every dino fan in your house. 💛
Ask after reading: “Tiny wanted to cheer up his friend. What could you do to cheer up a friend?”
Bonus giggle: Try a T. Rex hug. Elbows tucked in, tiny arms only. 🤗 How many can you give in 20 seconds? Count them together!
Burn some energy 🏃
In Count to 20 and Workout, Jack Hartmann counts to 20 again and again. Each round has a new move. Kids twist, crisscross, clap and stomp, and twirl a pretend lasso. 🤠
Bonus challenge: Count to 20 with big frog jumps. 🐸 Skip one number on purpose. If your kid catches it, they pick the next silly move.
This week’s fun 🎨
1. The Number Thief 🕵️
Stick notes 1 to 20 on the fridge. Your kid closes their eyes. You take one. They find the missing number. Then swap roles. (Expect to find 7 in the dog’s bed.)
2. Number Hop 🐸
Write 1 to 20 in chalk outside, or on paper squares on the floor. Leave out three numbers. Your kid hops along and shouts each missing one.
3. Fingers and Toes 🦶
Socks off. Count 10 fingers, then keep going on the toes to 20. Just like the Maya! Age 3? Stop at 10. That still counts.

Answer 🤔

Because 7 8 9! (Seven ate nine.) 😱
One last thing…✨
Your kid does not need to count to 20 perfectly today. Counting stairs, cookies, or toes all help. Small moments add up. Ten fingers, ten toes, one great kid. 💛
And if 15 goes missing again? Tell them it is on vacation.
